Do you Stumble?

StumbleUpon is a social Link sharing site. If you are an information seeker like me, but are tired of searching google for finding interesting site, then worry no more, StumbleUpon will help you discover and share great websites. The coolest thing about StumbleUpon is that, with just a click of a button you will be taken to an interesting site from the list of categories that you choose. And trust me its quite addictive.

The StumbleUpon toolbar is a must to have in your browser. If you dont have it, you are missing some fun of internet.

Apart from using StumbleUpon for surfing, you can also use to meet like minded people.

StumbleUpon is also cool, if you want to surf through the numerous videos that have started flooding on the website due to the popular emergence of social video sharing sites like youtube and googlevideo.

Other popular choices include to surf random news, pictures, blogs, wiki etc. You can also write reviews of these pages/sites which other users can read.

Currently there are above 7 million users of StumbleUpon.

Read more about StumbleUpon and how it works, here.

Due to high popularity of StumbleUpon, there was a rumor that eBay is going to buy StumbleUpon for $40-45 million in 2007 when total number of users were 2 million.(not conformed though)

Happy Stumbling!

Puzzle-2: Burn the Rope...

A classic puzzle involves being given 2 ropes and a lighter. The burning of one rope from end to end takes 1 hour, however the ropes do not burn in a uniform manner (ie: if you light it at one end, the first half of the rope could burn through in one minute while the second half may take 59 minutes to burn). Your goal is to measure out 15 minutes using the two ropes and the lighter.

You can assume that lighting a rope takes zero time.

Hint: You can break the rope with your bare hands..

Colloquium Web Designing Team Picnic -> Hinjewadi

Well, my todays post is all about the 'HINJEWADI TOUR' that we (Colloq web team) went on 3rd october , 2009. It was awesome, unlike other outings, it was amidst some of the great I.T. bigwigs like IBM,TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech mahindra and many more.
We completed our website work on 2nd October (Happy gandhi Jayanti) and that night four of us (me, Amit, Sanchit and Param) decided to chill out. This time rather than going for places like hilltop or LBT we thought of making it altogether different and decided to go to Hinjewadi the I.T. Hub in Pune which was 25kms from our place. We decided to leave at 5 30 in the morning (this was adventure too).
We woke up at 5 30 as scheduled (man!! we woke up at 5 30) and six of us marched to hinjewadi we four platina and unicorn. Really driving on NH-4 was so much fun on a sunday morning. Sanchit had bought few mentos (so that dimaj ki batti jale). Having fun we were heading towards our destination. Midway we saw a truck had over-turned and then there was traffic jam. But we were not caught in it there was already a diversion made. Then driving driving ................. and sanchits PJ's atlast we reached HINJEWADI. Man!! it was awesome.
It started with KPIT Cummins, (not the cummins girls college) then there was Mindtree, I think it is KPIT's product. The kach ki buildings amused me. I felt like I was a host on Travel and Living show and eager to tell you'll my experience. We took first stop at Wipro where there were two ways. Wipro covered a large areahaving many short heighted buildings cream coloured. We clicked out some pictures in eshtyle. Then again taking a step forward we headed left from Wipro and then were, TCS and the Tech Mahindra. Tech Mahindra campus was large and i liked the Architecture. We did not have any permissions to go into the companies so the only alternative was to see them from out-side :( Further there was a fine stretch of road with a dead end. Sanchit and Param overjoyed. Because now they take a ride on the bike. They had some rounds of bike riding. I think they must have enjoyed.
Back on the way we then again went till Wipro. We were yet to see the shaan of Hinjewadi INFY. N then we were in front of the huge ' INFOSYS ' gate. I couldn't believe what i saw. I was like a Mushroom structure. It was simply great. The large stretch of buildings, glass domes were eye-catching.Further we saw IBM then, some samll IT companies and were back to highway.
Returning back with some nice memories of Hinjewadi. Everyone was feeling a little sleepy because we had woke up at 5 30 can you believe that 5 30. Back to PICT pohevala.
Had nice two plates of pohe some bhaji and backe to Amit's House. Oh !! How could I forget Sanchit bought a DNA.
Unlike any other outing in Pune this was something really special. The IT hub was appealing and it was really inspiring.

Colloquium is BACK....

HISTORY:
Colloquium is a user group in PICT started in 2008 with efforts of Vishu Kartik and Atindriyo Sanyal. It was aimed to unite people intrested in Technical Related Stuff's like programming , web-designing and Robotics.
Started in March-08, colloquium had its own website from new members its a week. It was uploaded online with the free domain www.colloquium.tk
There were sessions over web-development,software designing and hardware.
The members took part in various competitions and had done well in their fields.
For eg:
Atindriyo Sanyal cleared for national Finals @ banglore in Imagine Cup of Microsoft in Software Designing.
Vishu Kartik was selected to compete in Semi-Finals of Imagine Cup in designing.
In robotics 2 teams qualified for round two place among top 15 in INC@PICT, in manual bot competition.
Autunomous bot was made by one of the memeber, it went for VIT 's techfest.

This year colloquium is back with a bang.
With a whole new concept and ideas by so called Core-Team and great response from SE, its gonna be big this time.
It started on 31st of August with a special meeting with SE and discussing about the agenda of Colloquium this year.
The Colloquium is divided broadly in 3 parts dis time: Software , Hardware and Designing.
The IC-2010 and the Techfest @ IIT Powai is the main aim for The Colloq's this year. Working in teams and generating new ideas is wat everyone wants and thats we do.
Keeping the college studies aside and working on new technologies and new softwares and new ideas is all colloquium about.

Effects of 'flu'ids on humans

His friends call him the most diligent CA in the neighbourhood (CA here stands for Cleanliness Agent). Sachin Karandikar, after his retirement, had taken to social service in a way unlike others. He is on this self-proposed cleanliness drive and aims at making the city (if not the world), a better, cleaner and, hence, a healthier place. So what’s new in this, you say? Well, he believes in only this, nothing more, no money, no name, just a clean environment with people with good habits around.

Sceptics always doubted his ‘selfless’ deeds; they reasoned ‘I mean who is so noble in today’s world!’ SK was not be deterred by such critics. He said, “I just want clean and healthy people, how more simpler and straightforward do you want me to be.” Still, not all were appeased. SK just didn’t care anymore; just went about his business as usual. Many people, the fast, urban, always-work-on-the-mind, on-a-hectic-schedule kind, sometimes found him irritating. Little did he know that it would be only a matter of weeks before the same people would come to him for advice in food habits, crowd manners and what not!

Cut to today – August 2009. SK is amazed to notice the transformation that people have undergone. He sees people today ‘afraid’ ,’wary’ of dirty, unhealthy environs and most importantly unclean people. It seemed only yesterday that he heard people scoffing, “common now, who has time these days to ‘wash your hands thoroughly and wipe them dry’ after every small thing”. Modern malls and hotels have their toilets installed with this ‘blower’ where you just put your wet hands in front of it, and its blows out hot fumes to dry your royal hands. Was it to save time, most certainly not – it took more time than wiping with a hanky, was it to get rid of public towel use – well why don’t people carry their own kerchiefs, or was it for just plain indulgence for the ones with a golden spoon, SK never could really come to terms with the cause for that. But now, no, he can see everyone, from the white collar execs to the average Joe, taking out their clean, neatly folded hankies out to scrub each finger separately, and then again, some even neatly folding it afterwards, and then put it away in the pocket even more carefully than one’s cellphone.

What has been the difference? Ironically, a disease, that threatens to explode into a pandemic. The words are on everyone’s lips (of course, under the mask!) today – swine flu. In the days gone by, SK witnessed many daily commuters on the always-overcrowded trains sneezing away so jubilantly without any protection whatsoever. And it doesn’t end there. The guy then gets his whole arm, from about mid-arm right to the tip of the fingers over his leaking nose to temporarily wipe it! Yuk! But day before yesterday, when in such a commute, when SK sneezed neatly into his hanky, he could have sworn that he had seen more than one appreciative nod around. He was pleasantly surprised. People were not only changing their habits for good, they were also encouraging good ones. Kids did not need second telling anymore to wash themselves after food, toilet or after evening play. Mild symptoms of cough, fever etc were promptly attended to by taking out some of the precious time to have a check-up done. Home-food was the ‘new’ in-thing. And if ever it was inevitable to have outside food, it was made sure that it is clean, healthy. And no need to mention to the omnipresent masks. They started out with the simple-just-to-do-the-job, green coloured veil, and now it’s almost a fashion statement. “Does the job all the same”, SK happily says, totally satisfied with the welcome change sweeping across people faster than the piggy flu.

JAVA or C# ??

This was latest question in mah mind. Well, both are object oriented programming and main difference i see is JAVA is made by SUN microsys and C# is its counterpart by Microsoft lol
I think after doing ur C langua its better to start off wid C++ which is a oop(object oriented programming) language, but on the oder way around its far better to go with either JAVA or C# which are easy 2 use and are OOP.
In these languages its easy 2 make windows application and have far more features than Cpp.

Now, if you have thought to start wid OOP language,, which one to start with?? its a hot question.

Well, its ma post so m writing mah thoughts :)
I started with JAVA but left in between becoz f many thngs out of 1 is mah mate froz3n.
We have decided to take part in mcrsft IC ,so we have to go with C#(a mcrsft product) :(

and finally i found its easy 2 go with C# than java (again its my thoughts only !!), mainly 4 C# you have 2 work in visual studio which luks far better than SDK of JAVA,,luks do matter.(dis is for SUN micrsys)

We the TRUE FANS of INDIAN cricket team ...........

Lets start from the tendency of common people or so called 'FANS' of the Indian cricket team.We make players 'THE IDOLS' when they win the matches and yes we do make life hell for them when they lose.We the fans, love our Indian cricket team so much that we forget everything when our heroes strike the ground. Now the main point is what we expect from our heroes ? Does everyone think that winning is everything for us. A big 'NO' is the answer. We expect them to show finest of their performances. Entertain us. Winning is expected but then being cricket fans we know the result of cricket can be anything. Rather it is undecided till the last ball bowled.
Lets roll down to 2009 T-20 tournament held in England. India's performance in practice matches was note-worthy, fans had a solid feeling that this time India would certainly make it to the final. Further for the super 8 qualifiers the performance was good. The opponents were Ireland and Bangladesh but lets not under-estimate those sides. The main fall of team started in the super 8 when India lost to West Indies then followed by their defeat to England when everything got shattered. Till the last moments of the match the fans were supporting the Indian side . But the players attitude in the dressing room said different things. Some of the players were smiling chit-chatting among themselves. We the fans had lump in our throat, we had difficulty in gulping down the present situation then. Was the game played in true sense is our question ? Does neone of us smile when we face a hard exam ? What would our parents think when we keep laughing even though we had a difficult examination ? The usual thinking can be that he doesn't care !! We had same feeling for Indian cricket team team that they don't care. Next the game with South Africa, 131 runs to chase starting was brilliant
but then the downfall began. As we all saw new zealand team crying in defeat on the ground which made us think was Indian cricket team in same spirit in which it was playing the IPL.
Indian cricket team is the best team, no doubt on it. Plans do back-fire but when they back-fire thrice one after another, it is a matter of concern. True, we have won the world cup last year so we can't expect that again, why not Australia has shown that.
IPL has shown us, the potential Indians have. This time we could not see the passion in Indian cricket team.Maybe last years win made them over confident, and they semmed to take things for granted. Surely the fire in two JATS yuvraj n harbanjan was seen and was highly appreciated. Some players striked but was not enough though.
This post may make my image a CRITICIZER but these were my views on Indian cricket teams exit from t 20 england 2009. The fact which makes me sad is that we are out, even though we were capable of winning.
WE ARE STILL TRUE FANS OF INDIAN CRICKET TEAM !!
A good leadership with true spirit can make wonders. I hope Indian cricket team gains momentum and plays futher games with full passion and rest all is left to almighty.
Dont keep our image as we keep throwing tantrums now n then, or were illetrate doin nething netime, it is done in teams interest to make them realize some mistakes that we FANS could find out.It is done truly in teams favour so that mistakes are not repeated and our heroes become HEROES OF THE WHOLE WORLD !!

The Clock Is Ticking.....

The best time of the year, the summer vacations, are about to come to a close in a couple of days. The time when there is a chance to leave behind all what happened during the preceding year of engg, and enjoy to one's hearts' content is unfortunately coming to a cold halt.
When I express my disappointment I am also, in a way, trying to usher in a fresh start to engineering. I feel that we must all just leave behind what happened in the preceding year, and move towards the awaiting year, in a rejuvenated fashion. Difficult and philosophical though it may seem, we all know that we have gone through different sets of experiences, those that may be good or bad. In a world where there is enough pessimism in and around us, we would definitely not want to be bogged down by the overwhelming experiences of the past. We, as engineering students, would definitely want to be motivated constantly in our pursuit for knowledge. This motivation can surely come from parents, past memories, etc. Remembering things that make us happy is a well proven way to avoid depression and other allied problems.
The point I am trying to make here is that even though the holidays are coming to a close, a fresh start to life awaits us on the other side. A start which can be defining for all of us! Many of us are already tired of the holidays! The presence of friends around us, ones who can share their own thoughts, knowledge, experiences, makes us all wanting to attend college. Lectures may feel boring sometimes, but there are enough ways in college to keep us all going! The tranquility of the campus is surely captivating to one and all. Friends of the first year of engineering will attend different departments for their intended majors, but what remains, are the common experiences shared. The help done or the help experienced, everything will remain as sweet memoirs in some corner of our mind.
In the end, I want to conclude my saying that all these experiences have in some way, played their part in making us a better person in some way or the other. A fresh start to life awaits, let’s go out there and enjoy every bit of it, and share it on this wonderful blog……

Ritche Rich in Night and Poha in Morning--- dats PL's

Epilogue:: """Students living near coll r prone 2 dis but localites, some big muggers n ppl living away hav still no idea dat dere's a famous "POHE WALLA" vich opens it shop damn at 5am in morning n sells wat is called da best"""

Well PL is da best time ven u can see da crowd in night. The coll gate is opened whole night n so is da library. It's full f muggers(still not much in da library, dey r mostly in their room's) and ppl who really enjoy coll lyf n dont giv a shit 2 exams.

Ritchie rich a famous shop just in front of coll ,, provide its services till 3-3.30 am. Coffee, sandwich,burger,ice-tea n many more thngs!!(it really includes many....not 2 mention!),, if u study late night (vich most of us dont, though v r awake till dat) it a heaven 4 u. Who dont like fuud at night and at da time u r trying 2 study.

Awaking whole night is easy but not on ur laptop, no mvie, no internet and on da whole you r trying 2 study 4 sem xams ,makes it impossible.

I cant say of everyone but what make me awakes whole night is the Coffee @ ritchie rich and poha at 5am.
The damn 10-12 night outs i tuk b4 exams wudnt have been dat easy without dem. It was mah skedule to hav a proper double hot coffee(not the espresso as dey dont provide) at 1am , so it was like studying frm 10-1am waiting 4 dat coffee n sumtimes sandwich wrks with it and den waiting for 5am in morning for "pohe walla" 2 open its shop.
I was like do nething but not 2 sleep b4 dat poha :D
You'll find many f ur colleages and seniors over dere, its famous its guud it rocks.
I have many times waited over dere 4 da guy 2 make so dat i can have the fresh one.(waise bhi i have a soft corner 4 poha frm last 2 yrs :)
Not to forget the juice wander who also cum by same time...he provides u the juices f real trees(try NEEM juice over dere, i bet u cant drink 2 glasses f it).

This is related 2 many ppl out there n many dont have a idea what da F m taking about,, still 2 me and many more " ITS THE WAY WE STUDY"" :P

Post-Mortem

I don’t know where to start. It makes me sick seeing all the ongoing ruckus, partly because it is unfair and partly because it is done by illiterate, yes I mean it, illiterate people who call themselves ‘fans’ of Team India.

These fans today want to be pampered every time. Every game should end in a favourable result for them or they start throwing tantrums. Yes, the early exit is definitely shocking and shameful for a team that is defending a title, but after all its just a game; anything can go wrong anytime, carefully laid-out plans may backfire unsuspectively, and more often so in this fast and furious format that is T20.

I feel the media to be responsible for this fickle-minded temperament of fans. A slight shift of things from normal state is enough for the blood thirsty mediamen to blow up the issue into insane proportions. And the recent losses are enough fodder for them to last till the next tournament.

Talking about the debacle in terms of cricketing ‘logic’; logic that undergoes serious twisting thanks to the T20 advent; we haven’t actually been defeated comprehensively in the first two super 8 matches. Yes, tactics used by fast bowlers to unsettle our batsmen were effective, albeit, for just 1 or 2 wickets.

The game against West Indies was very much in the balance until the very end of the last innings, when Bravo gave the final push. His was a match winning knock, total credit to him. The match against England showed just what I wish to conclude with – that luck, or chance plays an important in T20.

Everyone is after Dhoni’s head following his decision to promote Jadeja up the order, but one must understand that its just a plan which backfired. The same experiment could have possibly worked wonders in some other time. Back then when India was winning, anyone used to come at any position and the decision would reap dividends. It was hailed as brave, instinctive, and now, the same is regarded as insensible, foolhardy.

My final verdict on the disaster is that Dhoni, or Team India for that matter, just ran out of the luck on which they were riding the past two years. Team India definitely has the talent and skills and bravado, but you would agree that bravado does need its share of luck to succeed.

And being the glorious game of uncertainties that cricket is, one tournament loss should be shrugged off, because believe me, we are surely going to bounce back stronger.

Mobile Gaming just got better, a lot better

The start of 2009 wasnt exactly great for Sony Ericsson going by the high standards the elite brand has made for itself.
But u can always trust the brilliant minds in there to come out with something innovative just when one thinks they r down and out.

And the results this time : the Sony Ericsson Yari with Gesture Gaming !

It uses an optical tracking technology (developed by GestureTek), so that the Yari (i m starting to love this name!) uses its camera to detect actual movements and converts them into gaming moves, of course, only in compatible games.

Mind you, this feature is in no way related to the Shake-It, or Sense-Me features revolutionised by earlier Sony phones. Those features used the in-built accelerometer, whereas gesture gamin uses the camera.

So, while playing a certain game, lets take tennis for instance, u hold ur phone in front of u and imagine it as a racket in ur hand ! Be careful though, losing some points may make u wish to throw your 'racket' away in anger ! and u may end up throwing Yari. Sony Ericsson phones are delicate pieces you see, but then, all beautiful things are !

Welcome

Hello and welcome,
This is the place where we lay the groundwork for this blog. I know most of you might think I have nothing else to do, well that is quite true ;)
I am stuck here in PICT paying for my deeds and creating more and more blogs :)

First why one more blog ? or more specific why this blog?
Well as our idea for http://www.colloquium.tk follows, this is also meant to be a common blog. Here you can write about anything, everything. It can range from your weird ideas to a bad experiences. I am new to blogger so I have no idea if there is any limit on number of users that can be added to a single blog.
To have a greater idea of what you can put here,
  • Blog posts of you OWN blog
  • Any random thought
  • Collection of good links
  • Stuff happening in your lives
  • News ( not necessarily related to PICT )
  • Review of a new movie/TV show you have recently seen
  • Joined a job or college tell us about the place!
  • Awards/Competitions any1 ?
  • Any good games or time pass stuff on web
  • Pictures you have recently taken on a trip
I guess that covers many things. But as I said you can post anything related to you, or something you want people to know about.
Only thing which is discouraged is COPY+PASTE. I know we all are good at that part (heck that's how most of us pass B.E), but it's discouraged here. However you can post your own view about any post, news and similar stuff.

That's all fellas.. hope you join us soon.

Till then...
Bye
